Susan Meyers is the author of Keep and Give Away (University of South Carolina Press, 2006), selected by Terrance Hayes for the inaugural South Carolina Poetry Book Prize sponsored by the SC Poetry Initiative. Her book also received the 2007 Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA) Book Award for Poetry and the Brockman-Campbell Book Award. Her chapbook Lessons in Leaving won the 1998 Persephone Press Book Award, judged by Brendan Galvin; and she has won prizes from South Carolina Review, Crucible, and Yemassee. Her work has also appeared in The Southern Review, Crazyhorse, Tar River Poetry, jubilat, and other journals, as well as the online sites Poetry Daily and Verse Daily. Her reviews have been published in Calyx, The Post and Courier, South Carolina Review, and elsewhere. A long-time writing instructor, Meyers teaches area workshops and classes in community programs. She served as the 2005 Poet-in-Residence at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston and for the past seven years has served as a mentor for creative writing students at the Charleston County School of the Arts. She is a recipient of the South Carolina Academy of Authors’ Poetry Fellowship; a past president of the poetry societies of both North and South Carolina; and a past board member of the Lowcountry Initiative for the Literary Arts (LILA). She has an MFA from Queens University of Charlotte and an MA in English from East Carolina University. Meyers lives, with her husband, in the rural community of Givhans, near Summerville, SC.
